What Your Parents Should Have Told You, But Probably Didn’t Know in the First Place.

Youth who learn what is presented in this lecture will have a sound basis for saying no, even in the face of peer pressure.  Too frequently, parents tell their children “no” without giving them the “why”.  Only when they know the why are they really free to say NO for themselves.  The material presented will also provide adults with insights into challenges they may have faced personally in their own lives.  

The adults and youth who attend will not only be forearmed for dealing with this accelerating crisis, but will also be able to assist those who are already hurting to reverse direction and feel good about themselves again. 

In a refreshing way, this lecture will examine the obvious and the not-so-obvious traps both youth and adults face today. Among the topics which will be discussed are these: the threshold of excitement, sexual fixation, the principle of least interest, how to tell whether love is real or not, and the effects of premature sexual intimacy on the individuals and the relationship.

Backing Out of DEPRESSION & ANXIETY:
There IS Light at the End of the Tunnel

Most people at one time or another have brief bouts with depression. or anxiety.  An increasing number, however, even among our youth, are experiencing this dilemma more frequently and n more deeply.  The typical approach in dealing with depression and anxiety is to ignore it by telling themselves that “I can’t let this show!”  “I need to bigger than this problem.”  “Only weak people allow themselves to be depressed.”  Statements like these keep us burying our problems and our worries.  More often than not, depression and anxiety are strong indicators that a person’s self-worth is in trouble!

Management skills, as in stress management [and depression and anxiety is a manifestation of stress], simply give the person who is seeking relief the capacity to carry more and more stress.  What becomes operative here is the “straw that breaks the camel’s back.”  People need to acquire revival tools, not merely survival skills.  There is no need to keep burying and carrying unresolved issues.  Just know that the beliefs individuals have acquired are the bad guys not the individuals.  There is light at the end of the tunnel—both anxiety and depression have beliefs that can be UPROOTED!

Working with TROUBLED TEENS:
Getting the Horse Back into the Barn; Taming “Tigger”

Have you ever stopped to think that when parents and teachers and leaders seek to stop the misbehavior of a trouble teen, they may actually be increasing the troubles for that teen?  Misbehavior is almost always the symptom of another problem.  A recent correlation of studies, done on discipline problems in our schools, reduced the number of recurrent problems to sixteen.  These same sixteen appear in varying forms.  The purpose in correlating the studies was to find the most effective techniques available to stop misbehavior, and then to make those techniques available to schools.  Similarly, there are studies and techniques for helping parent deal with the behavior of their kids.  THE REAL TARGET SHOULD BE A GENUINE PERSONAL CONNECTION WITH THE TEEN, NOT THE TROUBLES.  When adults truly learn to relate to teens, the troubles tend to take care of themselves.  The focus of this lecture is to assist parents, teachers, and others in breaking through the protective barriers our youth have placed around themselves for survival.

Sad, isn’t it!  What is it that destroys the spark and puts out the flames of love?  Just as critical, how can fires that have gone out, or are nearly out, be rekindled?  Have you ever wondered why you are no longer able to communicate?  Or why nearly everything you say is somehow misunderstood or twisted by your spouse?  Life’s experiences, unless viewed through a base-line of principle, lead to the positioning of faulty communication filters in each of us.  And just as filters on cameras lenses can cause false images on the retinas of cameras, so faulty communication filters cause us to see and hear messages differently than they are intended.  This lecture introduces a new set of filters—PRINCIPLES—which, when put in place, increases the probability that each party will not only hear what is REALLY being said, but can communicate more accurately themselves.  What appear to be insurmountable obstacles to the reawakening of warm relationships are more frequently found to be misperceived molehills.
